I have owned many knives, fixed and folders, and carried and used them daily for boring tasks and not so boring adventures. I am very analytical about all of my gear. My fabrication background covers a wide range of materials and project types and has reinforced my desire for form to not only follow function but for the form to enhance the function as well. Everything about MKC equipment checks all the boxes for me. I have been holding out to select the models that are just right for my wife and I. I have had knives from a lot of the big names in the industry and I have sold almost all of them for different reasons. Most knives are not the complete package.
The MKC whitetail is a great package. I really like the size and shape. The design fits in this 200 pound ape’s hand perfectly and the balance is just right. The material choice and finish for the blade and the scales is tough to beat. The initial edge on it is unmatched. The size to weight ratio is great. It is clear that they either work very hard on the design of blades like this or get very lucky. I’ve had my hands on a few of their knives now and I would say that there is no luck involved.
The fact that they don’t stop with the blade and make a sheath system that is as well thought out and executed is a game changer. I have had knives that I like for the most part but then, to really use it to its full potential, I need to send the knife to another craftsmen to make a very functional sheath. That’s ok but it’s honestly a pain in the ass and unfortunate that it has to be that way. The MKC sheath system shows the attention to detail that you would hope to find in real craftsmen. The size, shape, details, retention, options, and durability make this sheath a valuable part of the knife system. I also like that I could call MKC and tell them I need another sheath for a certain model and not have to part with my knife for an unknown amount of time.
Josh and MKC have customers for life in this family. I, as a fellow craftsmen and outdoorsman, am very proud to carry their knives and support such great Americans. Keep doing it right, MKC. From my family to yours, thank you.
