Preparing a meal is a special ritual, whether you’re dicing vegetables on your kitchen counter or breaking down game meat at your campsite. But finding a knife that feels equally at home in both environments is tough.
That’s why we partnered with Steven Rinella, host of Netflix’s “MeatEater,” to create the Shedhorn Chef knife — a blade that bridges the gap between your home kitchen and outdoor adventures.
Named after freshly dropped antlers (a “shed”), the Shedhorn sets a new standard for chef’s knives. Like finding a shed antler in the wild, using this knife feels both natural and exciting.
A Different Kind of Chef’s Knife
Traditional chef’s knives can be intimidating. They’re often long, aggressive-looking tools that make even experienced cooks think twice.
We took a different approach with the Shedhorn. Its compact 6 1/2″ blade length feels welcoming and intuitive from the first use, whether you’re a seasoned chef or just beginning your culinary journey.
Anyone who’s prepped meals in a camp kitchen or on a cramped counter knows space is precious. The Shedhorn gives you all the capability of a full-size chef’s knife in a more maneuverable package.
Built for the Real World
We chose MagnaCut stainless steel for the Shedhorn for a reason.
This incredible steel, developed by metallurgist Larrin Thomas, combines the edge retention you’d expect from a high-end knife with corrosion resistance that stands up to real-world use: MagnaCut handles moisture in your camp kitchen and acidic ingredients in your home recipes.
We’ve also added a black Cerakote finish that releases food easily and simplifies cleanup.
The blade’s profile features a shallow continuous curve and dropped tip that works naturally with both rocking and chopping motions. The design adapts to your cutting style rather than forcing you to adapt to it.
For detailed work like removing silverskin from game meat or finely mincing herbs, the lowered tip gives you precise control exactly where you need it.
Comfort Meets Control
The Shedhorn’s G10 handle scales are shaped to remain comfortable during long prep sessions while maintaining a secure grip in any condition.
Whether your hands are dry, wet, or food-slicked, the G10 material keeps its grippy texture. We’ve designed it to work naturally with various grip styles, from a traditional handle grip to a precise pinch grip for detailed cutting.
Each Shedhorn comes with a custom-made Kydex sheath for transport and storage. It’s not an afterthought — this sheath features a built-in retention screw to customize blade tension and allows for handle-down carrying. Whether you’re storing your knife in a kitchen drawer or packing it for a backcountry trip, your blade stays protected.
A Lifetime of Adventure
Like all our knives, the Shedhorn Chef comes with our MKC Generations® promise. It’s our commitment to keeping your knife in perfect working condition for its entire life — which will last far beyond yours.
We’ll clean, sharpen, repair, and even reshape your blade when necessary, all free of charge. This knife isn’t just meant for today’s adventures. It’s built to become a family heirloom.
Whether you’re preparing a gourmet dinner in your kitchen or cooking over a campfire, the Shedhorn Chef is ready for the task. It’s a bridge between the comfort of home and the call of the wild, designed for those who believe good food knows no boundaries.
