I own two other Blackfoot 2.0 knives in MagnaCut, but for some reason, I keep reaching for this one in 52100 Ball Bearing Steel. Even though they cost the same, I couldn't figure out why—so I looked it up.
There’s a concept called Psychological Separation Between "Work" and "Premium" Tools, which explains:
Some people mentally distinguish between “workhorse” tools and “premium” tools, even when both serve the same function.
A superior knife may feel more like a collector’s item or an investment piece rather than a practical everyday tool.
Bottom line – this knife has become my workhorse. I’ve had it for just over a month, and while I don’t abuse it or use it for opening boxes (I love the super-sharp tip and don’t want to risk chipping it), it has handled everything I’ve thrown at it.
I’ve used it for peeling fruit, slicing meat, cutting fruit off branches, and cutting rope here and there—all without needing to sharpen it, despite moderate daily use.
The Blackfoot is firmly in my top 5 knives.
